About Amy Robertson

My Story

I have known since I was a young adult that I wanted to be a mediator, it has felt like a calling to me. What I was less clear on was timing. In 2006 I made a big personal and professional decision to leave my successful career working as a management consultant for one of the top five professional service firms and become a mediator (despite really enjoying my job and colleagues).

My mission was to support families during challenging times and after years of further education, training and experience I founded Amy Robertson Mediation Services in 2014 and began exclusively mediating. Over the last several years I have had the honour of working with hundreds of families and have conducted over 1000 mediations. I was also asked to design and deliver mediation training for mediators and lawyers across Canada on my client-centred approach to family mediation.

What My Clients Have to Say

How Can Amy Robertson Help You

I have specialized training and significant experience helping families with their asset and debt division and support responsibilities. This often translates into reduced stress and costs and the ability to move forward with a plan. I am also really impressed with how resilient the people I have worked with are and to bring out their creativity and resourcefulness while empowering them to separate consciously or with intention is an honour for me.

I am a qualified Family Dispute Resolution Professional under the BC Family Law Act and I am also a certified Advanced Comprehensive Family Mediator. This means that I mediate all aspects of separation or divorce.

Access to Justice

Upon request, I have spent a considerable amount of volunteer time chairing a steering committee and learning about Access to Justice (A2J) initiatives in BC with professionals from a variety of backgrounds (e.g., judges, lawyers, mediators, counsellors and government).

Decreasing costs and supporting people to resolve their disputes are two key elements of A2J. Ultimately, A2J means a timely process, saving money and the ability for families to choose what is right for them. I also know from my experience working with families that many people going through a separation are stressed out, overwhelmed and not sure of all the decisions or tasks that need to be done or are not sure of the best way forward.

My client-centred approach was designed to minimize the cost and time it takes for my clients to have a plan or agreement in place so that they can move forward with their lives without compromising the opportunity to have a process tailored to their unique circumstances. My clients have expressed appreciation for guiding them through this period of transition and ensuring they made informed decisions.

I have been featured on Mediate.com, Family Mediation Canada, Mediate BC and the Academy of Professional Family Mediators, as well as published in Douglas Magazine, The Scrivener and two books that were part of a global collaboration with other mediators from around the world.
